The great Peruvian singer Yma Sumac past away over the weekend in Los Angeles. Known for her extreme vocal range and as one of the great proponents of the exotica movement, Yma attained such monikers as "Nightingdale of the Andes" and "the Peruvian songbird" after gaining commercial appeal with her many contributions to the world of cinema. Tom Schnabel, our musical genius, was asked to contribute to PRI's The World earlier this morning as they honored Yma Sumac in their "Global Hit" segment at the end of their program. In case you missed it, you can listen to the feature on demand at the following link and download the mp3.
